What Is Direct Cremation?

Direct cremation is the most basic form of cremation. It involves the collection of the deceased, cremation without any witnesses, and the return of the ashes in a simple cardboard box or plain urn.

Due to its low cost and allowing family members time to plan the funeral, direct cremation is popular in California and Anaheim area.

Direct Cremation Cost

Direct Cremation is the cheapest way to cremate a body– the average price is $2,300.00 in the US, but at our Orange County, CA location we offer direct cremation for only $1500.

Funeral Home Vs Direct Cremation

Traditional funeral homes often involve a formal gathering to commemorate the deceased. These memorials include a viewing or visitation, a funeral ceremony, and a procession to the final resting place.

Families may choose to embalm the body for preservation and opt for an open casket so family and friends can have one last visit with the loved one.

In contrast, direct cremation is as basic and simple as it gets:

  • Receive them into our care– 1-2 days
  • Complete all paperwork– 1-2 days
  • Perform the cremation– about 10 days
  • Return the ashes– 2-5 days

Ashes & Crematory Process

1. With your permission, the crematorium takes your loved one into their care.

2. Your loved one is kept in a controlled environment to maintain their condition.

3. Necessary paperwork and California permits are completed and filed.

4. Cremation is performed using a simple alternative container, often made of cardboard.

5. The ashes are then placed in a basic plastic or cardboard urn.

6. You can choose to collect the urn in person, hand delivered to your Orange County address or securely mailed USPS.

The entire process usually takes about two weeks, but it can vary depending on the crematory efficiency and time required for paperwork.
